Special Events:
The mission of Create A Smile Dental Foundation (C.A.S.D.F.) is to obtain funding for dental care for people who have no dental insurance, inadequate dental insurance, and for those who do not have the funds to obtain proper dental care, essentially low income individuals, both children and adults. We will help those who cannot get help from other sources.
On our limited funds so far we have helped over a dozen men, women and children by providing dentures, cleanings, fillings, a root canal and restorative dental work, and countless referrals where more money is available to possibly help. We have over 40 applicants right now that need help and we do not have the money to help them. When people call (we get calls every day for applications) we tell them we will take the application and when funds become available we will interview them. We have written over a dozen grant proposals and have been denied on all of them. Our largest donations of $1000 each have been from Poshard Foundation, Ameren CIPS, and Southern Illinois Healthcare. We received $500 from Ladies Auxiliary VFW in Marion.
Our fundraising activities in 2005 includes:
1. C.A.S. Thrift Shop #33 Circle, Zeigler, IL. 618-596-2343
We have been open only 6 months so funds from this has been minimal for CASDF.
2. Bucket Brigades in different towns in Southern Illinois.
We need volunteers in smaller towns with main highway and 4 way stop. We have already done Carterville and Zeigler 4 ways.
3. Tee Shirt Advertising Campaign
We sell 14 ads @ $50 each and put on back of CASDF Tee Shirt and buy 24 or more tee shirts from Silkworm. Every advertiser gets a free tee shirt and volunteers at bucket brigades get a tee shirt free. They are bright yellow for safety & very attractive!.
4. Quin States Washer Pitching Tournament August 13, 2005
We need Sponsors for trophies, food, silent auction and gift Bingo, etc.
5. Local Dentists
We have visited local dentists and asked for and have been pledged two $700 charity cases from University Place Dental in Carbondale, Charity cases from Dr. Butt in Carbondale, a periodontal case from Dr. Boeh in Marion, an anonymous dentist has pledged a root canal half price, and an anonymous dentist in Carbondale has pledged Donated Dental Services. We have many other dentists to visit but trying to raise funds takes many hours.
6. John A. Logan Dental Hygiene School
We send many people to John A Logan Dental Hygiene School for cleanings, x-rays, and oral exams and have paid for most of the visits. The people then have an idea what dental procedures are appropriate for them and approximate cost.
7. Health Fairs
We exhibit at health fairs and give out info about dental care. We have volunteer dental hygienists and could use more.
